ABOUT MY PIANO LESSONS
You can find all the information you need about my piano lessons here.
I have gathered answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding me, my piano lessons and my teaching styles and methods.
WHY SHOULD YOU LEARN THE PIANO?
Playing and improvising music brings a great amount of joy and helps our brain’s stay agile long throughout adulthood.
Listening to music will give most people a great amount of pleasure. But nothing can compare that to the feeling you gets when you are the one creating the music. Be that just playing by yourself or together with other people the amount of joy you get from playing the piano is immense.
In addition to pure joy, musical activities improve our brain’s plasticity and cognitive abilities. Learning to play and improvise music helps our brain stay agile long throughout adulthood. We learn different types of visual and aural pattens that improve our abilities to anticipate things within the musical sphere and beyond that into life. It is never too early or too late to experience the joy and benefits of learning to play the piano!
WHO DO I GIVE LESSONS TO?
Adults and teenagers over the age of 15.
I mainly teach adults & teenagers over the age of 15. However, I can make exceptions for younger students on a case-to-case basis. My main requirement for younger students is that the desire and motivation to learn and progress comes from the adolescents themselves and not for example from from the parents or guardians.
WHAT STYLES AND GENRES DO I TEACH?
Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, RnB, Jazz, Music Theory And Improvisation.
What I teach depends a lot on my students. I am open to many kinds of goals and ideas. My main focus is on pop, jazz, rock, soul, funk & RnB piano studies and pop/jazz music theory but I have taught other genres as well (classical, hip-hop/neo-soul/chillhop/dubstep riffs/beats etc). I also help students with arranging, composing and producing music and beats.
WHERE DO I TEACH?
At my piano studio in the center of Helsinki.
I mainly teach at my cosy piano studio in the center of Helsinki near Esplanadi. Occasionally I might teach at a student’s home or at another suitable place.
DO I TEACH ONLINE?
Yes, I teach online via a platform called Whereby. Other options are also available.
HOW MUCH DO THE LESSONS COST?
First lesson is free.
Normal lessons are 50,00 EUR (40,30 EUR + 24% VAT) / 55min.
My first piano lesson is always free (55min lesson) so you can try out the lessons and my style of teaching without any risks! The prices for regular lessons are 50,00 EUR (40,30 EUR + 24% VAT) / 55min. Other options are also available for lessons with different durations. Contact me if you need more info about pricing.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU HAVE PIANO LESSONS?
I recommend once a week or once every two weeks (2-4 times a month).
There is no straight answer to this question. The frequency of lessons depends on many factors such as the student’s age, skill level, music background, life schedule, financial situation, goals and ambitions and also the duration of the individual lessons. That said, most students I have have lessons either once a week or once every two weeks.
Personally I recommend a lesson either once a week (about 4 times a month) or once every two weeks (about 2 times a month) The reason being that large gaps between lessons might lead to loss of motivation. Also, if a student develops bad playing or practicing habits they are easier to fix when the lessons are regular.
HOW DO YOU BECOME MY STUDENT?
Contact me and I will send you a lesson form and give you more info.
It is extremely easy and straightforward to become my student! Just contact me any way you wish (via social media channels or the contact form on this webpage). I will then talk you through the process. Usually I send a form to new students where I ask a bit about their piano skills and goals. I will then prepare the first free lesson for you based on that and other information.
You do not need to prepare anything for the first free lesson. I will take care of everything we need and will tell you what need to know and do. After the free lesson if you wish to continue then we can decide how to procede further together.

WHAT IS MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY?
I want to look at piano teaching in an innovative way where I approach my students the same way that a personal trainer would approach their clients. I want to develop personalised plans and programs for each student. I want to utilise both traditional and less common teaching methods.
I think the most important thing in life is to do what you love. I really like making music and teaching how to do the same. Music is very emotional and therapeutical for me and I like to instil that feeling and importance to my students as well. I want them to really explore what they want themselves and I see myself as more of a mentor to my students where we reach our common goals together.
Most students might not get the best out of traditional learning methods and resources. People learn in different ways and also have different skill levels both for theory and technique. Some have trouble reading notes while others prefer notation over other methods. It is thus important to be agile enough to be able to take all learning aspects into consideration when teaching.
I have several resources, methods and approaches that I use for teaching. I have created different types of worksheets to guide my students and help them learn. I have worksheets for people who can read notes and for those that cannot. The worksheets consist of notation sheets, chord sheets and personalised worksheets. I also use pictures, audio tracks, videos and a MIDI software called Midiculous in my curriculum. For online lessons I use a platform called Whereby.
WHAT DO MY STUDENTS SAY ABOUT ME?
Sibil’s approach to teaching was very effective. He was very interested in my progress. He worked like a personal trainer. I had the feeling that he could see my best qualities as a pianist but also the things that I had to keep working on to become better.
Sibil is passionate and professional in his teaching. At the same time he has a great personality and great sense of humour which makes playing so fun and effective.
I absolutely loved the flexibility Sibil had in his approach to teaching. Be it with the content, the lesson timing or anything else, he was always able to adapt and help me progress in my playing. He’s a great teacher, in addition to being just a really interesting person to have casual conversations with. 🙂
Sibil is a very talented musician and an excellent teacher. I am highly recommending him. Very nice person too.😊
I have absolutely loved every lesson I’ve had with Sibil. We do things a bit different than normal lessons and it’s so cool how he adapts to all the improv I ask him to do. Every lesson we take a familiar base song that I love and then improvise around it. It’s really inspiring to learn from him. Would recommend to anyone looking to push their piano skills further. 🙂
Sibil is an inspiring piano teacher. He teaches me jazz music and we
play mostly familiar swing time classics. He teaches theory in small
pieces and the teaching does not get boring at any time. I recommend
Sibil to those people who are eager to play real music in live lessons.
Sibil is easy going, warm, fun and encouraging. I really liked his approach to teaching me as a beginner. If somebody asked for piano lessons, I would recommend Sibil in a heartbeat.
Sibil is not only a good pianist but he has a very nice teaching approach which gives a taste of satisfaction and motivation. As a bass player, he helps me with all kinds of music theory, walking bass and solo improving. I recommend his teaching with all kinds of instruments.
Sibil is an amazing pianist and a great teacher. He is engaging, motivating and he teaches things in fun and easy going ways. He has a good pedagogic approach to his teaching mixed with his own creative ways to explain things, which makes learning even more fun. He really takes you on to what you want to learn and how to get there. He utilizes great digital tools to reinforce his teaching.
